An electric shaver is one of those things I consider a necessity for any man. I’ve gone through four different brands over the years, and while most did the job, I always found myself making some sort of compromise. Replacement blades became another thing to remember, small parts broke, proprietary chargers inevitably disappeared, and some couldn’t even be used around water. The shavers themselves were often unnecessarily bulky, too. Traveling only made those shortcomings more obvious, particularly when one would inevitably turn itself on somewhere inside my bag, needing a full recharge by the time I reached my destination.
The Laifen P3 is the first one I’ve used that seems to have addressed nearly every annoyance I had accumulated with the others. It’s remarkably compact, fully waterproof, charges by USB-C, and has an airplane mode that prevents it from turning on in your luggage. There are no blades to routinely replace, and the protective cover keeps whatever is left behind after a shave from finding its way into your toiletry bag. Even the upfront cost becomes considerably easier to justify when you consider how little there is to replace or maintain over time.
After trying four different shavers, the P3 has become the one I actually reach for every day and the one I pack when I travel. That, more than any specification on a box, is usually how I decide whether something deserves recommending.
